PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF AEGLE MARMELOS FRUIT
by Ms. Pushpa Anantrao Karale, 13 Oct 2019

The objective of present study to evaluate the phytochemical and pharmacological screening of fruit extracts of Aegle marmelos using various in-vitro methods. An antioxidant activity of an extracts were evaluated by using DPPH free radical scavenging and reducing power method while well diffusion method used for antimicrobial activity. Phytochemical screening indicates the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, phenolics and tannins in methanolic and aqueous extracts of Aegle marmelos. Methanolic extract showed significant antioxidant potential but inferior to that of ascorbic acid. The methanolic extract showed utmost zone of inhibition against the S. aureus (18 mm) and it was higher than that of the standard tetracycline. From the findings of the present study revealed that Aegle marmelos is a potential source of antioxidants and antimicrobial potential. The data clearly depicts the presence of compound like marmelosin may contribute for their antimicrobial and antioxidant potential.
