ABSTRACT

Dear Reader, AntiMicrobial Resistance (AMR) was first reported in the 1940s but superbugs emerged in 2009. The lay press and academician Doctors blame overuse of antibiotics as culprits for the alarming incidence of AMR particularly prevalent in our country but the facts are contradictory. Judicious and timely advocating of antimicrobials by Doctors, in fact, has resulted in India being ranked as 60th highest in terms of agestandardized AMR mortality rate per 100k people amongst 204 countries!
