ABSTRACT

The genus Tanacetum L. belongs to the Asteraceae family and is one of the most important medicinal group that contains 26 species in Iran, 12 of them being endemic. Tanacetum pinnatum Boiss. grows wild in Iran. This paper reports the essential oil composition of T. pinnatum population in 3 provinces of Iran. The essential oil of T. pinnatum was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Alborz province (Kodashte), plant gives yield in leaves of 0.4% and in flowers 0.6% (V/W). From flowers, that main compounds were α- cadinene (15.91%) and cubenol (6.42%), β- eudesmol(19.47%), (E, Z)- geranyl acetate(12.03%) and α- chenopodiol (7.5%) and α- cadinene (19.94%), cubenol (6.67%), β- eudesmol(18.93%), (E, Z)-geranyl acetate (12.55%) and α- chenopodiol (7.14%) from leaves. The plants of this province have a maximum range of compounds compared with other provinces.
