ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study was to evaluate antipsoriatic activity of extractive phytoconstituents of the seeds of Glycine max (soyabean). Oxidative stress is considered as one of the important etiopathological factors in development and exacerbation of psoriasis. Isoflavones, the most important phytoestrogens present in soyabean, possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which make them vital phytoconstituents for management of psoriasis. The prepared extracts of soyabean seeds were evaluated for physicochemical properties and presence of phytoconstituents. On the basis of phytochemical screening and total phenolic content (TPC) of various extracts prepared, ethanolic extract (EE-S), hydroalcoholic extract (HAE), water extract (WE) and petroleum ether extract (PEE) were selected for further evaluation of antioxidant efficacy. Ethanolic extract of soyabean (EE-S) showed highest free radical scavenging activity and hence further formulated as conventional gel. The developed formulation was evaluated for physicochemical characteristics such as spreadability, in vitro release study and in vivo study for determination of efficacy in reducing psoriatic lesions in Wistar rats using photodermatitis model.
