ABSTRACT
In recent years, zebrafish (Danio rerio) have shown to be an excellent model organism for studies in the field of neurology. As more data accumulates, it is plausible that some established rat paradigms may be modified for use with zebrafish. Zebrafish are discussed as a potential replacement for mice in studies of neuropsychiatric diseases including severe depression. Due to their high level of similarity to humans and amenability to genetic alteration, zebrafish are excellent research subjects for neurobehavioral investigations. In this study, we provide a comprehensive review of the zebrafish behavioural models currently in use, including the novel tank test, colour preference test, light/dark test, social preference test and open field test.
